South Coast Development Council

The South Coast Development Council, Inc. (SCDC) unites the 12 incorporated city and 4 county region to foster sustainable business growth through BEAR (Business Expansion, Attraction, and Retention) and strategic collaboration. SCDC is a member funded 501(c)3 nonprofit economic development organization, headquartered in Coos Bay and serving the Southern Oregon Coast from Florence to Brookings. SCDC works to engage public and private stakeholders across the region to pursue economic development opportunities, while providing complimentary technical assistance to retain, expand, and attract companies and industries that provide living wage jobs in and to our region.

SCDC is headed by an Executive Director which is supported by a member elected, seven-member Executive Committee, and up to a 30-member Board of Directors. Members are a diverse group representing the unique communities of our region and consist of large and small businesses, government entities, and individuals dedicated to seeing the Southern Oregon Coast grow and thrive.

SCDC provides a public and membership benefit which is funded through annual memberships, private foundations, and grants, with the understanding that our funding and operations are meant to create the largest collective economic impact and is not exclusive to those that fund our activities.

SCDC was founded in 2000 as a 501(c)3 non-profit, economic development organization. Formed by Coos County membership concerned about the future economic prospects of their local economy, the organization focused on the recruitment of traded-sector businesses and industries to the Coos Bay and North Bend, Oregon area. Over time SCDC grew, and in 2014, was expanded to include business retention and expansion (BRE) services and to include a larger regional footprint which now includes Coos, Curry, and coastal Douglas and Lane counties. This new focus makes it possible for SCDC to help businesses expand their current operations, find new locations, and act as a catalyst for start-up businesses.
